05. You did what?? 😲
🚨 Ever Made a Decision That Made People Question Your Sanity?
You know the kind.
The one where you start explaining it and people immediately respond with:
“Wait… why would you do that?”
They list out all the logical reasons it’s a bad idea.
It doesn’t add up.
It doesn’t look smart.
And yet…
you know it’s right.
That pull? That magnetic, irrational knowing?
That’s not chaos.
That’s the call to adventure.
In this episode, I’ll talk about how you enter a hero’s journey through enticement and being lured into something more exciting and adventurous.
Our biggest life is constantly trying to get us on the journey onto that path, but it’s also our fear of the unknown and attachment to safety that can keep us from answering the call.
Join me as I walk through how this plays out in the mythic sense of the word as well as my ideas and tips on how to navigate and reframe your thoughts when you are feeling called in by something that seems exciting, but scary!

What This Episode Is Really About
In this episode of Be Your Own Dang Hero, we break down one of the most powerful (and misunderstood) moments in the hero’s journey:
Being called into something bigger—before it makes sense
You’ll learn:
- The 3 ways we enter a life-changing transformation
- Why some of your “craziest” decisions may actually be your most aligned
- How to navigate the tension between logic vs. intuition
- Practical questions to help you decide when to leap… and when to wait
The 3 Ways You Enter the Hero’s Journey
Most people think change happens logically.
It doesn’t.
It happens in one of these three ways:
1. The End of Normal
Something breaks.
A job ends. A relationship shifts. A system stops working.
You don’t choose change—
change chooses you.
2. The Call to Adventure (Through Enticement)
This is the “you did WHAT?” moment.
You’re drawn toward something:
- A person
- A place
- An idea
- An opportunity
It makes no logical sense… but you feel pulled anyway.
This is the kind of decision that:
- Disrupts your “safe” life
- Forces you into the unknown
- Opens doors you could never have planned
Example from this episode:
Leaving a stable government job to move to a new city for an online relationship.
Logical? No.
Life-changing? Absolutely.
3. The Conscious Leap
This is when you know you’re stepping into transformation:
- Starting a business
- Getting married
- Having a child
- Committing to a major life change
You choose the path—
knowing it will change you.
The Real Battle: Head vs. Heart
At every fork in the road, you’re facing one core conflict:
- Your head wants safety
- Your heart wants expansion
Your head says:
Stay where it’s predictable.
Your heart says:
There’s more for you.
To step into the bigger life?
You have to let go of the one you planned.
(Yeah… that part’s not cute.)
Why the Unknown Feels So Damn Scary
Here’s the truth most people don’t say out loud:
We’re not just afraid of change.
We’re afraid of the unknown itself.
And that fear?
It’s deeply tied to our fear of loss, failure… even death.
Which means:
Every time you choose the unknown, you’re literally building courage.
Not conceptually.
Experientially.
The Plot Twist: It Usually Works Out (Better Than You Think)
Here’s what happens when you follow the call:
You don’t get what you expected.
You get something bigger.
- A new life
- New relationships
- New identity
- Opportunities you couldn’t have engineered
The irony?
We want guarantees before we leap.
But the magic only happens after.
How to Decide: Should You Leap or Stay?
If you’re standing at your own “you did WHAT?” moment, ask yourself:
1. Will I Regret Not Doing This?
Is this a once-in-a-lifetime pull… or something that can wait?
2. What’s the Worst That Could Happen?
And more importantly:
Can I handle it or mitigate it?
3. What Happens If I Choose Safe?
Be honest:
- Relief?
- Or quiet resentment?
Important Truth: You Don’t Always Have to Leap
Let’s normalize something:
You can refuse the call.
Sometimes:
- You have responsibilities
- You’re in a season of stability
- It’s just not the right time
That doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you aware.
Final Takeaway
If something is pulling at you…
If it makes no sense…
If you feel both excited and terrified…
You might be standing at the edge of your next adventure.
And the question isn’t:
“Does this make sense?”
The question is:
“Am I willing to trust it?”
